Policy and Advocacy Veterans Update 26 November
OTA meeting with DVA
OTA met with DVA staff on 19 November to discuss the Government's response to the final report of the Royal Commission on Defence and Veteran Suicide and strongly urged DVA to support recommendation 71, which calls for a significant provider fee increase to at least NDIS levels.
OTA also discussed fees under the DVA scheme and sought clarification on how occupational therapists can bill sustainably when supporting complex clients requiring long appointments to address immediate client or safety needs. DVA has committed to raising this issue internally and proposing a solution, and OTA will keep members updated.
DVA Hospital Discharge Guide
The Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) has released a new one-page printable guide to assist discharge planners when supporting the transfer of care arrangements following a veteran’s hospital stay.
OTA will continue to update members in this space.
